Artist's Statement

My work consists of small oil paintings on board, canvas, and paper. I like the intimacy of working on a reduced scale and the concentrated energy that can emerge. I am intrigued by how a small painting can suggest a much larger space, like peering through a small window.

My recent paintings focus on isolating often overlooked subjects, such as weather balloons, insects, and children’s paddling pools. Working from both found and original imagery, I reframe and crop compositions using techniques borrowed from film and photography.

These fragments are translated into paint through a restrained colour palette and muted tones, creating still, quiet spaces that hover between familiarity, memory, and strangeness.
